Designing the unknown
Designing the unknown describes my professional work. It refers to situations where a person or community is looking for change, transformation. The new is always partially unknown and unpredicatable.
My work with people and organizations is about helping to think about and design the unknown.
Organization consultancy
An organization is a living entity. Like all living things, it must adapt to its environment and situations. That is why an organization is in motion and must be developed. Development involves balancing the success and results of the organization, and on the other hand, its long-term operational capacity and well-being.
I have worked as an organizational consultant for over 20 years. Focus areas:
- designing and leading change process
- developing self- and community-driven organizations
- leadership development
- supporting autonomous teams and development of network structures
I am spezialised in developing flat, less-hierarchic organizational models, and all that these include: new forms of leadership, shared practices, new structures, organizational culture. And the HR practices including salary models, recruiting, internal learning and development, competence programs…
Philosophical services
Nothing human is foreign to philosophy, whether it is related to individuals or communities, thinking, feeling, or how we perceive life events. A philosophical perspective can mean that things are offered a place to rest, settle: there is no hurry to solve anything, but we can calmly analyse what kind of phenomenon we are facing.
I offer philosophical services to individuals and organizations:
- philosophical counseling
- socratic dialogues
- reflecting the purpose of the organization, values, community, leadership, mission, cooperation, ethics
- key notes on philosophy in working life, meaning of work, and how to perceive work in a different light
- professionals of change and development, such as consultants, work psychologists, work counselors: how to apply philosophical models at work
Academic research
Research helps to deepen our understanding of leadership, collaboration, organizational design, and self- and community-directed organizations. I conduct research projects both directly with clients and through academic projects. Thanks to the research, we have been able to outline key features of self-managing organiztions, their leadership, organizational design and shared practices.
My research is often conducted with an ethnographic approach, studying everyday work practices: how work is done in each organization, how collaboration occurs, and what kind of leadership is implemented there.
